COPS: NO PROOF LINKING JI TO NEGRI RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS
The Star, Wednesday June 22, 2011
SEREMBAN: There is no evidence linking several religious schools here to Indonesia’s Jemaah Islamiah group.
Negri Sembilan police chief SAC Datuk Osman Salleh said there was also no proof to suggest they had been turned into training grounds for students to overthrow the Government.
“Our investigations show there is no such link. We will, however, continue with our probe,” he told reporters here.
He was commenting on a front-page report in a Bahasa Malaysia daily which said that students at religious schools in Kuala Pilah and Tampin had been told to take part in street demonstrations to overthrow the Government.
The newspaper also quoted an official of the school in Kuala Pilah who admitted that leader of Jemaah Islamiah Abu Bakar Bashir visited the school in 1995 but denied allegations that it was involved in spreading Islamic militancy.
SAC Osman said police hoped to interview several individuals, including students of these schools following the report.
